Frequently asked questions about the Latch Lock ammo can security device to lock and secure US Military surplus metal ammo cans and boxes.

Presale Questions

What is the Latch Lock?

The Latch Lock is a no-drill locking device that quickly and securely locks your metal ammo cans preventing them from being opened. Designed to fit modern US Military “surplus” .50 cal (M2A1 and M2A2), Fat .50 cal (S.A.W. PA108) and other metal ammunition cans.

Latch Locks are made from strong and ultra-durable carbon steel and powder coated satin black to resist rust and corrosion. Built to last a lifetime no matter the elements!

While there are other ammo can locking hardware solutions on the market, they all require drilling a hole through the side of your ammo can. This takes time, tools and ultimately compromises the weather tight seal that surplus metal ammo cans are known for. The Latch Lock is the only no-drill locking device sold today!

The Latch Lock locking plate is cut from a single piece of steel with no small parts, nuts, bolts or pins to lose. It easily installs on the outside of your ammo can in seconds. No drilling or tools required and maintains your ammo can’s air and water tight seal. The Latch Lock requires a compatible keyed padlock or combination lock (sold separately).

Why do I need the Latch Lock?

Besides holding rounds of ammunition like they were originally designed for, metal “surplus” ammo cans have thousands of other uses. They are commonly used for storing guns, tactical equipment, survival gear and emergency supplies. They can also be used as a safe to lock up valuables, for geocaching or for weather-proofing important documents and materials. They even make the most badass cigar humidors!

No matter what you decide to put in your ammo cans, Latch Lock allows you to securely lock them in seconds and provides a safe and effective way to help prevent access to the valuable contents inside.

Properly securing your firearms and ammunition from children, would-be thieves or any other unauthorized user is one of the most important responsibilities of being a safe and responsible gun owner. Metal ammunition cans have always been a great choice for storing these items, but there has never been a quick and reliable way to properly lock them. We finally solved this problem with the Latch Lock. When installed correctly with a compatible lock, it allows you to securely lock your ammo cans in seconds!

How does it work?

The Latch Lock locking plate is cut from a single piece of steel with no small parts, nuts, bolts or pins to lose. It easily installs on the outside of your ammo can in seconds. No drilling or tools required and maintains your ammo can’s air and water tight seal. The Latch Lock requires a compatible keyed padlock or combination lock (sold separately).

It precisely fits between an ammo can lid latch and the ammo can body. Once in place behind the ammo can lid latch, a tab protrudes through the existing hole in the latch where a compatible lock is installed. This creates a binding action that prevents the lid latch from operating normally. Since the latch can not swing up and open, the Latch Lock and compatible padlock prevents the ammo can from being opened when properly installed.

How is it made?

The Latch Lock was custom designed to precisely fit several US Military “surplus” ammo cans. Our manufacturing process starts in the metal fabrication shop with a large sheet of thick, heavy duty carbon steel. This material is placed on a large, industrial CNC fiber optic laser where it cuts Latch Locks out to the programmed shape with computer controlled precision.

Next, each Latch Lock is individually bent with a CNC press break that allows us to custom bend several angles. Batches of Latch Locks are then tumbled in an abrasive media to polish, debur and smooth the sharp edges of the raw metal.

After being cut and bent to exact specifications, Latch Locks are hand delivered to our powder coating vendor. Once there, they are prepped for powder coating, this includes sandblasting to clean and remove any dirt, debris or oils from the manufacturing process. Each Latch Lock is hung and carefully sprayed entirely with the powder coat material. Once coated, they are then placed in a large commercial oven where they are heated to over 450 degrees fahrenheit. This heat bonds the powdered coating onto the steel creating a hard and ultra durable satin black powder coated finish.

About Us

Who created the Latch Lock?

Latch Lock (and our parent company, 2 Fives Holdings LLC) is a small, family run business located in Chesterfield, Virginia. We are owned and operated by Colin and Kevin, who are friends and neighbors. They have over 30 years of combined experience in ammo can sales and metal fabrication industries.

Colin, who was born and raised in Richmond VA has always enjoyed expressing his creativity. When he started his career as a machinist he not only got to be creative but also learned valuable skills in this trade. He has been a machinist for over 12 years and is a do-it-all type of guy. Colin was really excited to partner with his good friend Kevin to develop a product superior to anything on the market, Latch Lock!

Kevin is also the owner of Ammodor, LLC. Invented in 2012, Ammodors are handcrafted cigar humidors that are built by repurposing a variety of US Military surplus ammunition boxes and containers. They are then lined with high quality Spanish Cedar wood - creating the most effective and durable cigar humidors in the World. Kevin has purchased and sold thousands of ammo cans and similar storage containers in the last decade. This knowledge and first hand experience is what gave him the idea to create Latch Lock several years ago.
